Find out what space missions NASA will develop in 2026 | News

In 2026, NASA is preparing for the Artemis II mission while working on new technological advances with allied companies.

For the Artemis II mission, four astronauts will travel inside the Orion spacecraft and fly around the Moon. The manned journey will take place until April 2026, so the next stage – Artemis III – will take place in 2027.

Artemis II will be the first mission in which the public participated in the creation of a crew mascot. The finalists represent 10 countries, incl USA, Canada, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Peru, Singapore and Wales.
NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover and Christina Koch, and CSA (Canadian Space Agency) astronaut Jeremy Hansen will soon select one of the finalists to accompany them inside the Orion spacecraft as their lunar mascot.

The Rome telescope is scheduled to launch no later than May 2027, and staff are working on a possible early launch that could take place in the fall of 2026.

On the other hand, by April 2026, the Starliner-1 unmanned spacecraft will deliver the necessary cargo to the International Space Station.

The Boeing Starliner spacecraft that launched NASA astronauts Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams from the Manned Test Program to the International Space Station is seen docked to the front port of the Harmony module. This long-term photograph was taken at night from the orbiter as it ascended 415 kilometers above western China.

NASA also announced that the launch of the Astrobotic Griffin lander will take place next year no earlier than July 2026.

Astrobotic’s Griffin Mission One is similarly scheduled to launch. 2026 will also see the launch of the IM-3 from Intuitive Machines. Exact dates have not yet been announced.
