This week marks the 30th anniversary of the launch of the PlayStation. The first generation of the console appeared in Japan December 3, 1994 (it arrived in Europe nine months later) and laid the foundations for what we today can recognize as one of the most successful entertainment products of all time.
With over 100 million units sold, the original PlayStation was probably the console that gave you the most unforgettable moments. A tribute to nostalgia
Time can’t be turned back, of course, but it’s no secret that we love a lot of things from the past. Perhaps for this reason, retro is more relevant than ever. Sony knows this, and as Tom Warren points out, prepared a tribute for three decades of PlayStation, which will be a gift for the most nostalgic users.
When you install the software update released this Monday on your PS5, your console will greet you with the original PlayStation loading screen. You will be able to see the old Sony Computer Entertainment logo with the corresponding legend. In addition, the Japanese prepared a second surprise.
In a few seconds, the PlayStation 30th Anniversary Update will be waiting for you on your console’s home screen. You can click Next to go to the next page. If you click Next again, the system will allow you to open setting options.
In this section, Sony offers you to choose from different themes, among which you will find 30th anniversary and themes for PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4. Each choice will be accompanied by the colors and sounds of these consoles. Of course, the PS5 system will not change completely.
